Right now he is directly connected to my modem.I'm using CAT6e on this setupThank you for the answer Does router affect internet speed Networking. These units would be ideal for a DIY NAS but you may not want to do that. I use a board based on the N3050 processor for a Media Centre and you can get them already soldered onto a motherboard ever so cheap. Some of the more recent Intel processors are on the 14 nm process and less and are also very energy efficient. (I have not researched this.) Nas's use ARM because they are very energy efficient. I think the Netgear boxes have ARM processors and that limits the Distros you can load on them. Since they are free the easiest way to check them out is, after a brief read, to try them and see - no licences to worry about.ĮDIT. I have installed OpenMediaVault in the past and have been impressed. You would have to examine there documents to make sure they do what you want. There are a number of NAS's there reading some there blurb like Rockstor (based on Centos) they offer replication. The Replicate service was nice because it showed both units in their cloud service program and I could setup specific backups of certain folders from one to the other on a schedule.ĭistrowatch contains most Distros that are "free" and has a search capability. I currently do NOT have a VPN tunnel setup to the offsite NAS, and I would prefer not to have to do that. So, if I just want to cut Netgear out of this because they obviously don't have the support capability for it, what would I use to create and manage backups of one NAS to an off-site NAS? I managed to get into a real tech support person who took my info and is supposed to escalate it to someone else, but it's been a month without my offsite replication and I'm frustrated as all hell. I can't get to anybody to help me reset that license information on their servers. After re-installing the Replicate Add-On, it would not longer register the purchased license through the online account.Īfter weeks of going back and forth with their online community non-support forums, they told me I should have deactivated the license before wiping it and it might be corrupt and need resetting on Netgear's end now. Recently, I wanted to clean things up and start my backups from scratch, and the easiest way to do that was to wipe the units clean. I'm using a pair of ReadyNAS Pro units with the Replicate service add-on so I can setup and manage backups from the onsite unit to the offsite unit via the web.
